05 October 2018 – Unpredictable, memorable and always exciting – the KwaZulu-Natal Sasol League is edging nicely toward the season finale as Durban Ladies FC look to consolidate their tag as favorites for the title.
The next round of fixtures takes place this coming weekend with certain clubs scrambling for positions at both ends of the table.
The action kicks-off when an unlucky Citizen Prayers tackle fellow relegation threatened MUBS Ladies at Manguzi. The home team have an incredible goal difference of -93 and will be hoping for a change in fortune.
Tiger Girls then host first placed Durban Ladies at King Zwelithini Outer Field. The away team have 22 victories from 23 starts for a grand total of 66 points and will be hoping to avoid any pressure from second placed Lindelani Ladies, by getting a win here.
Their rivals will host Newcastle Ladies at New Centre knowing that anything less than a victory will hand Durban a more than useful advantage going into the home straight. Lindelani are 10 points adrift but with two games in hand.
Proceedings then move on to the Umhlathuze Complex where White City will play host to Barcelona FC in what should be a tantalizing tactical battle. Barcelona lie in third and are still in with a mathematical chance of claiming overall honours.
Ntuzuma Ladies will then be looking for their supporters to get behind them at their Darnal Ground when they entertain Nxamalala Ladies. Ntuzuma are still winless and will be desperate to get their first victory of the season.
Finally, the action concludes at Westville Campus when UKZN face Umlazi Arsenal in a mid-table encounter. Both clubs will be looking to build some much-needed momentum as the end of the season ominously looms.
UKZN team manager Scelo Gumede offered a few thoughts on the fixture.
“We are coming into this game like wounded tigers after losing our last game to log leaders Durban Ladies. We were sunfortunate as our players had knocks from Varsity Football but are now fully recovered. We are looking forward to a great game ahead. We don’t have Kholosa Biyana and our head coach Thinasonke Mbuli as both are with Banyana but it is not a problem and opens doors for others. We know how Umlazi plays and are well prepared,” said the manager.
