The ABC Motsepe League is the current second division and overall third tier of South African football. The competition features 144 teams in total, divided into nine 16-team provincial divisions. The winner of each provincial division qualifies for the annual ABC Motsepe League National Play-offs. Both the winners and runners-up earn promotion to the National First Division (NFD), as well as R1M and R500K in prize money, respectively. SAFA’s third division — SAB League — promotes to ABC Motsepe League. Likewise the bottom two clubs from each provincial division are demoted to SAB League each year. |
